The Taken King is the third major expansion to Destiny, released on September 15, 2015. It marked the start of the game's second year, and included major shakeups to Destiny, including dedicated Quest UI, new weapon types, a new enemy race, the Taken, as well as three new subclasses: Sunbreaker, Nightstalker, and Stormcaller.
The events of the expansion are predicated upon the arrival of Oryx, the Taken King and his hulking Dreadnaught to Sol in response to the defeat of his son, Crota, at the hands of the Guardians.
