The Strange Coin Replica is a die cast replica of a Strange Coin as they are seen in Destiny and Destiny 2, produced by Idea Planet. It was initially available as part of The Taken King Collector's Edition, released on September 15, 2015. However, it would see a second release years later through the Bungie Rewards program, added to the Bungie Store on December 7, 2021 as part of the Bungie 30th Anniversary Pack collection. After earning Forerunner, an Exotic Sidearm in Destiny 2, fans could purchase this version of the replica for $25.00 USD[1]
Each version of the replica is made from the same die, measuring 2.96" x 2.91" x 0.26" (7.52cm x 7.39cm x 0.66cm) in dimension.[1] They are both made of zinc alloy with antiqued bronze plating, and the original release includes a plastic semi-transparent jewel in the center,[2] while the 2021 edition's jewel is made of shatterproof glass, and is opaque.[1] The original release weighs in at 2.61oz (74g), while the Bungie Rewards edition weighs 2.4oz (68g).
The Bungie Rewards version also includes an NFC chip within the center jewel which can be detected by the Spectrometer replica included with The Witch Queen Collecor's Edition. When scanned and attuned, the Spectrometer in conjunction with the Strange Coin produces dialogue from Xûr: "I feel a great many consciousnesses impinging upon mine. And all of them, so small and lonely."[3]
Purchases of the Bungie Rewards release also included a digitally delivered code for the "Of the Realm" Emblem.[1]
The initial release of the replica arrived within the Modified Treasure Island Book, fit into a cut out section within the book, while the Bungie Rewards release naturally came packaged in an individual box. This box is 4.09" W x 0.88" H x 4.13" D (10.4cm W x 2.22cm H x 10.48cm D) in dimension and dark green in color. The top features a silhouette of the Strange Coin behind the Nine's icon stamped in silver foil, while the bottom displays more Xûr iconography, as well as the Bungie Rewards logo and text reading the name of the item and the year it was offered. The top hinges open, held closed with a magnet, to reveal the strange coin sat in a relief lined with fabric. The inner top also has a layer of foam to protect the Strange Coin while stored.
