The Splinter of Darkness Replica is an item included in the Destiny 2: Beyond Light Collector's Edition, based off of a plot-relevant item to be introduced in the Beyond Light expansion.
This replica is made out of die-cast metal, and features LED lighting effects. It's dimensions are 7”L x 3.75”W x 2.5”H (17.8cm x 9.5cm x 6.3cm).[1] The LED function of the replica could be set to three modes, as detailed on a small instruction sheet in the collector's edition. These were glow, breathe, and code. The glow mode simply would simply sustain a constant glow, the breathe mode would slowly dim and brighten again, and the code mode blink on and off in an inconsistent pattern. This mode would be found to apply to a puzzle present in the Mysterious Logbook also included in the collector's edition.
Months before the collector's edition was shipped out, marketing would suggest that the replica could contain some sort of secret,[2] just as the Hive Cryptoglyph replica from the Shadowkeep Collector's Edition previously did. This would eventually come to be true, as fans would discover in late October 2020 when Destiny 2: Beyond Light Collector's Editions would begin to ship out.
Alternate Reality Game[]
An ARG, or alternate reality game, was discovered within the Destiny 2: Beyond Light Collector's Edition. Many puzzles were found within the Mysterious Logbook, including one central puzzle in which the Splinter of Darkness Replica played into. The blinking sequence observed when the replica's LED function is set to its code mode was discovered to apply to a graph found on page 2 of the Mysterious Logbook, using measurements of time of each blink to spell out the word "CHOOSE". Using a hint also found on the second page of the book, fans discovered the webpage https://www.bungie.net/analyze, and if a signed-in user with the exclusive Emblem found on the Europa Postcard already assigned to their account entered "CHOOSE" into the displayed text field, the page would fully load. The page would then display a countdown, which would end on November 5th, 11 AM PDT.
A massive resource in documentation of all of the secrets and puzzles found in the collector's edition was created by u/Aeluvium on the r/raidsecrets subreddit, and can be found here. The Raid Secrets community is also to credit for solving all of the puzzles found in the collector's edition.
Three universal Emblems were also discovered as part of the puzzles included in the collector's edition, Cryonautics, Galilean Excursion, and Future In Shadow. The codes for these are 7LV-GTK-T7J, JYN-JAA-Y7D, and RA9-XPH-6KJ.
