Special edition releases of video games usually coincide with the release of the accompanying game, and tend to include various physical and/or digital items not available with the standard release.
Most games and expansions in the Destiny franchise include one or more special edition versions to purchase. Bungie has long been known for their curated collector's edition (or, in the past, legendary edition) releases, and that has been no less true during Destiny's tenure. Every major title in the Destiny franchise excluding Rise of Iron and Forsaken have received Bungie-produced collector's editions, and the tentpole releases of Destiny and Destiny 2 have also received limited editions, which are in essense a more affordable alternative to the premier collector's edition.
Rarely, Destiny titles will be bundled with consoles, usually PlayStations, as well. Namely among these is the Limited Edition The Taken King PS4 Bundle, which includes Destiny's one and only limited edition console variant.
Some releases have also seen faux-special edition releases, which are described as such because they were not produced directly by Bungie. In 2018, Forsaken would receive the Forsaken Gamestop Bundle, which bundled the expansion with the Cayde's Last Stand statue and other collectibles, and in 2020, Beyond Light would similarly be bundled with a statue produced by Numskull and sold as the Stranger Edition of the expansion.
