Rockstar // Destiny 2: Forsaken Promotional Campaign

The Rockstar Destiny 2: Forsaken Promotional Campaign is a collaboration between Bungie and Rockstar to promote the release of Forsaken. Announced on August 30, 2018,[1] the campaign ran from September 3 to October 30. It is comprised of eight collectable energy drink cans featuring characters from the expansion, two each of the Original, Punched, Sugar Free, and Zero Carb flavor varieties. Each can had a unique code under the pull tab which could be redeemed on Rockstar's Destiny 2 website portal after creating an account. The first code entered would reward a unique code for the in-game Destiny 2 Emblem Peace of the City. All codes would additionally serve as one entry into each of the three sweepstakes: daily, weekly, and the grand prize. Three winners were chosen each day of the campaign period for the daily sweepstakes, and it awarded a digital copy of Forsaken Annual Pass Bundle. For the weekly sweepstakes, three winners were chosen each week to receive a black Playstation 4 Slim console and a copy of the Forsaken Digital Deluxe Edition. The grand prize would be given away to one lucky winner, and it included a custom Slingshot Roadster adorned with Rockstar and Forsaken branding. Fans could submit multiple codes for additional chances at each prize, and the entry period ran from September 3, 2018 at 9:00 AM PDT to October 30, 2018 at 8:59 AM PDT.[2][3]

Code remeption also allowed fans entry into the Legendary Round of the Forsaken Rockstar Riots competition. This competition ran for eight weeks, and those who registered to compete could earn points by completing tasks in Destiny 2 during each week. The first three weeks comprised the Open Round, which all players could participate in, regardless of code remeption status. The following three weeks consisted of the Legendary Round, which was only available to fans who had redeemed a code on the Rockstar website. Those who placed in the top six-hundred of the Legendary Round were eligible to compete in the Qualifier Round, which was open during the seventh and final week of the competition. The top four players at the end of the Qualifier round would win a trip to Bungie's studio to face off against a team at Bungie, an event which was livestreamed on Twitch on December 18, 2018.[4]

Every week, the competition would cycle from Crucible, to Strikes, and to Gambit, each with its own set of scoring conditions. The Crucible challenges were active during weeks 1, 4, and 7, and points could be earned by completing matches (100 points), getting precision kills (3 points), and getting Guardian kills (1 point). Strike challenges were active during weeks 2 and 5, and points were scored by completing Strikes (100 points), getting precision kills (3 points), and getting combatant kills (1 point). Gambit challenges were available during weeks 3 and 6, and points were accumulated by completing Gambit matches (150 points), getting precision kills (5 points), killing Invaders (3 points), and killing combatants (1 point).[4]

Each of the three rounds of the competition had its own set of prizes to win. During the Open Round, the first place winner would receive a Vertagear gaming chair, while the top five would receive an Astro headset and Scuf controller, and the top ten would earn a $50 gift card to the Bungie Store, as well as two cases of Rockstar energy drinks. The first place winner of the Legendary Round would be gifted a custom-built PC by iBuyPower, as well as a monitor, keyboard, and a mouse. The top five would receive a Vertagear gaming chair, Astro headset, and Scuf controller, while the top ten would get the Alexa Destiny 2 Ghost Edition and two cases of Rockstar energy drinks. The top two-hundred would receive a Forsaken branded hat and hoodie, as well as eligibility to compete in the Qualifier Round. As previously mentioned, the four winners of the Qualifier Round won a trip to Bungie's studio to participate in a livestreamed Destiny 2 competitive event.[4]
