The NERF LMTD Gjallarhorn is a dart blaster rendition of Gjallarhorn made by NERF. Announced on December 7, 2021 day-in-date with the release of the Bungie 30th Anniversary Pack, the blaster served as cross promotion for Gjallarhorn's reprisal in Destiny 2.[1] To highlight this, initial preorders would be available through the Bungie Rewards program to players who earned Gjallarhorn in-game before August 1, 2022. The blaster was added to the Bungie Store the day it was announced, however preorders would only open on Bungie Day, July 7th, the following year.[2] Although initially advertised as selling for $160.00 USD, this price was brought up to $185.00 USD by the time preorders opened up. These preorders would begin to be fulfilled by early 2023.[3]
Unique for Bungie Rewards offers, the NERF LMTD Gjallarhorn was limited to two copies per transaction, rather than one. The window for Bungie Rewards preorders lasted only two weeks, with remaining stock being available to everyone on July 21, 2022. By this time, there were over 4,700 copies available.[4]
The blaster is described as being 1:1 in scale at over four feet (one meter) in length.[3] Special care was taken by the teams at Bungie and NERF developing the blaster to retain Gjallarhorn's behavior in-game, such as the reloading animation, scope illumination, and the iconic Wolfpack Rounds.[2] As such, the blaster fires three darts simultaneously via a breech loaded shell. The blaster includes three shells which hold Mega darts, and one shell to hold Elite darts, and enough respective darts to load all four shells.[3] The blaster fires the Mega darts at over thirty feet per second, and Elite darts at over fifty feet per second.[5] The lights on the scope are activated by a switch on top of the scope, and are powered by two AA batteries.
The blaster features a stark orange and white deco, a far cry from the weapon's in-game appearance. This is due to limitations in place with the production of toy blasters, restricting NERF's ability to faithfully recreate Gjallarhorn's color scheme.[2] As a compromise, the gold elements were shifted to NERF's classic orange, while areas with metal or wood textures were made white or otherwise had their colors flattened to distance the blaster from a sense of realism.
Each copy of the blaster also included digitally delivered codes for the "A Distant Howl" Emblem and the "Gjallarfoam" Ornament, which replicates the blaster's appearance in-game.[3] These codes would begin to be distributed as of December 2022.
Packaging[]
The outer packaging of the NERF LMTD Gjallarhorn was designed by Spencer Shores of Bungie, who took special care to echo the highly ornate design of the Gjallarhorn in doing so.[2] The front side displays a Hunter fitted in the Twisting Echo armor set acquired from the "Grasp of Avarice" Dungeon, which is also where Gjallarhorn is sourced from in Destiny 2. Also present is the NERF LMTD logo as well as the Tricorn, backdropped by a landscape featuring the Last City as well as the Traveler suspended above it. On the rear side of the box is displayed an illustration of the Gjallarhorn itself, as well as the outline of an Engram.
