McFarlane Toys is a merchandising company with a focus on action figures and other collectible products, such as full-scale replicas. The company produced licensed Destiny collectibles in 2017 and 2018, as the license was seemingly revoked in early 2019.

It was announced in early 2017 that Bungie would be working with McFarlane Toys to create Destiny collectibles.[1] During New York Toy Fair 2017, which took place in February that year, the first wave of Destiny products was shown off. These products consisted of three Guardian action figures, the Vault of Glass Titan, Iron Banner Hunter, and King's Fall Warlock, two deluxe box sets, the larger Lord Saladin figure and the Iron Gjallarwing Sparrow, and a life-size replica of the Iron Gjallarhorn. These products would see wide release in Fall 2017, with the exception of the Iron Gjallarwing box set, as it was ostensibly cancelled.[2]

Each of the three Guardian action figures would be repainted, bundled with an alternate helmet sculpt and shuffled up accessories, and released simultaneously with the first wave of figures as exclusives for various retailers. These include the Titan (Amduat Ink Shader), Hunter (Blacksmith Shader), and Warlock (Hallow Shader) figures.

A second wave would release in Fall 2018, revealed during New York Toy Fair 2018.[3] However, in keeping with the previous year, some of the items shown on the convention floor would fail to see release. Wave two consisted of action figures representing each of the three Vanguard mentors, Cayde-6, Zavala, and Ikora Rey, a new deluxe figure of Lord Shaxx, and another roleplay item in the form of the Titan Sentinel Shield. The Titan (Feud Unfading Shader) figure was also revealed as another retailer exclusive repaint of the Vault of Glass Titan from wave one. Additionally, three action figures representing Guardians in armor found in Destiny 2 were shown off, including the Parade Armor Titan, Crucible Hunter, and Iron Banner Warlock.[4] These all featured brand new sculpts, accessories, and paint decos, but none of them would make it to release. It is unknown why these products were cancelled, as the rest of the new products on display at the convention would be released throughout 2018. Another item to release in 2018 was the Sentinel Shield replica, the second in the collection of McFarlane's life-size roleplay items inspired by Destiny.

In addition to those revealed at Toy Fair in 2018, the Gunslinger Cayde-6 and Hunter (Million Million Shader) figures were released that year as retailer exclusives. In keeping with previous exclusives, these figures were repaints of preexisting sculpts in the series.

Another item was announced and put up for preorder late in 2018, the Legacy Vault of Glass Titan (Chatterwhite Shader) figure, with an expected ship date of April 2019.[5] However, between the item's announcement on November 16, 2018 and that projected release date, Bungie was announced to have split from Activision, in January 2019.[6] While being conjecture, it is clear that when Bungie became fully independent, many of its merchandising licensing relationships ceased, effecting brands such as Pop!, Mega Construx, Bigshot Toyworks, and others. For one reason or another, it seems that Bungie has been more selective with granting merchandising licenses than Activision had been. To that effect, the Chatterwhite Titan figure was never produced, and McFarlane Toys' relationship with the Destiny franchise has not been picked back up since.

    • MSRP: $21.99 USD
This release was the last among all of McFarlane's licensed Destiny products to be announced. Revealed on November 16, 2018,[5] the Legacy Vault of Glass Titan (Chatterwhite Shader) figure was intended to release in April 2019 before it was quietly cancelled.[19] The figure was another repaint of the Vault of Glass Titan, although this time the inspiration behind the paint scheme would have been thematically congruent, as the Chatterwhite Shader was only obtainable from the Vault of Glass Raid activity in Destiny. It was advertised to include the original Gjallarhorn and Invective accessories, as well as the same raised display stand as the original figure, although it was never noted whether or not it would include any Ghost accessory.
The figure was advertised to include a code for an in-game Emblem, however the name of the Emblem was not made known.[20]

    • Release: Wave 1 (Holiday 2017, Cancelled)
    • MSRP: $34.99 USD
The Iron Gjallarwing boxset was revealed at Toy Fair 2017 as part of the initial collection of McFarlane Destiny products. Despite coming in at the same price point as the deluxe Lord Saladin figure, this item was intended to scale with the standard sized action figures produced by McFarlane.[2] It is unknown what other accessories or display options it would have included had it been released, nor is it known why the item never saw release.

McFarlane Deluxe Lord Shaxx 4

Lord Shaxx figure

  • Lord Shaxx
    • Release: Wave 2 (October 2018)
    • Size: 10" (25.4cm)
    • Emblem: Controlled Chaos
    • MSRP: $34.99 USD
This figure was released in late 2018 after being revealed earlier that year at New York Toy Fair.[3] It depicts Lord Shaxx in the same scale as the previous Lord Saladin figure, however, it is the only figure under the McFarlane Destiny umbrella which is intentionally limited in its ability to pose. Whilst the other figures have all the points of articulation one would expect, Shaxx only possesses swivels at the neck, shoulders, and thighs, as well as some ankle articulation. This is likely to facilitate the hands-on-hips pose the character is often seen performing in-game, which would not so expressly be feasibile with McFarlane's standards for articulation. As such, additional accessories are limited, the only one included being a nondescript Hand Cannon, which comes stored in a holster on the figure's thigh.
This release also includes a code for the Controlled Chaos Emblem, which can be unlocked in Destiny 2.[22]

Roleplay Items[]

McFarlane Iron Gjallarhorn Replica 6

Iron Gjallarhorn replica

  • Iron Gjallarhorn
    • Release: Gamestop Exclusive (November 2017)
    • Size: 44" (1.1m)
    • MSRP: $169.99 USD
The Iron Gjallarhorn replica is the first among McFarlane's Destiny inspired roleplay items. As such, it aims to be 1:1 in scale and detail. The item is 44" long, extensively painted in silver deco, and made primarily of plastic in order to stay lightweight to keep using it for things like cosplay practical. To that end, the item includes a bright orange ring attached to the end of the barrel, so as to mitigate the chance of it being mistaken as a real weapon in keeping with toy laws in the United States. It has been posited that McFarlane intended to circumvent the orange cap's necessity, but the effort apparently failed to reach fruition.[2]
The item features an electronic element, which is powered by three AAA batteries that are not included with the package. When powered, pulling the trigger will cause sound to emit from a speaker at the tail end of the replica. The sound library of said speaker consists of the Rocket Launcher's locking-on sound effect, a firing sound effect, as well as the iconic Wolfpack Rounds detonation sound effect heard when the Gjallarhorn is fired in-game.[23]
Out of the box, the Iron Gjallarhorn is disassembled. Instructions are included, and can also be found on McFarlane's website. Once assembled, the item is not meant to be disassembled again.[24]

McFarlane Sentinel Shield Replica 5

Sentinel Shield replica

  • Sentinel Shield
    • Release: Gamestop Exclusive (November 2018)
    • Size: 23" (58.4cm)
    • MSRP: $99.99 USD
This item is a full size replica of the Titan Sentinel Shield as it appears in Destiny 2. The surface sculpt is taken directly from the shield's design in-game, however, unlike the game, McFarlane opted to render the shield in a metallic style, complete with simulated battle damage and extensive silver drybrushed paintwork. However, to replicate the Void effect from the game to some extent, the shield's outer ring is made with translucent purple plastic.[25]
The shield can be wielded via a handle and elastic strap, which is fastened comfortably with a hook and loop fastener.
