Beyond Light is the fifth paid expansion to be added to Destiny 2, released on November 10, 2020. It is the first part in a tetralogy of pivotal expansions to Destiny 2, being followed by The Witch Queen, Lightfall, and an untitled fourth entry post-Lightfall.[1] Beyond Light has also been stated as being the first step past the prologue of Destiny's overarching story,[2] kicking off the Age of Darkness.[3]
The events of Beyond Light primarily revolve around the acquisition of Stasis, a new element type powered by Darkness. This is achieved via the Exo Stranger's reintroduction to the narrative, who aids the Guardian in communing with the Pyramid on Europa. However, the Guardian is not the only one vying for the freshly rediscovered Dark power. As Eramis, Kell of Darkness also aims to empower her House of Salvation with Stasis, assuming the role of main antagonist in the story.

Plot[]
The Guardian is summoned to Europa by a distress signal sent by Variks, the Loyal. This was due to his betrayal of the recently emerged House of Salvation, led by Eramis, Kell of Darkness. Upon rescuing him, Variks informs the Guardian that Eramis has made contact with the Pyramid on Europa, which arrived with the Dark Fleet months prior, and that she has been granted the Dark power of Stasis. Led by the Pyramid, the Guardian finds the Exo Stranger, who was drawn to Europa by the Pyramid to acquire Stasis herself. She is also in company with Eris Morn and The Drifter, who have also been granted this power. The Stranger then gifts the Guardian a Splinter of Darkness, and tasks them with communing with the Pyramid at the Ziggurat to go beyond Light, and wield Stasis.
With Stasis in hand, the Guardian goes on a quest throughout Rathmore Chaos on Europa to further understand their new dark power, and put an end to Eramis and her House of Salvation. While further communing with the Pyramid, gradually realizing their power over Stasis, the Guardian defeats two of the four members of Eramis' council, Phylaks and Praksis. Soon after, the Guardian confronts Eramis herself, and defeats her, rendering her frozen solid in place by the power she once wielded. After this, Kridis, the Dark Priestess, assumes control of House Salvation, and works to free her Kell from her icy imprisonment. But the Guardian is quick to put a stop to this, defeating Kridis before she finds a way to restore Eramis.
The Exo Stranger then sends a fireteam of six Guardians into the Deep Stone Crypt, where the Fallen have already made their way into. Here the Guardian faces the last of Eramis' council, Atraks, now Atraks-1, Fallen Exo. Here it is discovered that Eramis had been keeping Taniks' body, as the Guardian watches his revival by Atraks-1. The fireteam finds themselves aboard the space station Morning Star, where they defeat Atraks-1 and go on to face Taniks. Taniks attempts to use the station's failsafe mechanisms, which would result in the destruction of Europa. But he is thwarted by the Guardian and their fireteam, as they use the nuclear cores to destroy the space station instead. This sends the fireteam as well as Taniks plummeting back to Europa's surface, where the final confrontation between the six Guardians and Taniks, the Abomination, begins. After a lengthy fight, Taniks is defeated once more, and the threat of an army of Fallen Exos is avoided.

Soundtrack[]
The Beyond Light soundtrack consists of 34 original tracks with a runtime of one hour and 39 minutes composed by Michael Salvatori, Skye Lewin, John Mosser, Michael Sechrist, and Rotem Moav. Despite having the greater number of tracks, the Destiny 2: Beyond Light Original Soundtrack falls short in length compared to that of the Destiny 2: Forsaken Original Soundtrack, making the Beyond Light soundtrack the fifth longest in the series.
